🚧 Road Closures & Bus Diversions

Diversions for concerts at Cardiff Castle

For concerts at Cardiff Castle, Castle Street itself will close from 21:00 to last bus. During these times the following diversions apply:

Service 9 (towards Sports Village only):  Will operate normal route to Newport Road/Dumfries Place then via Station Terrace, lower Churchill Way, Bute Terrace, Customhouse Street and Wood Street then usual route to Sports Village. Note on Fridays and Saturdays lower St. Mary Street is closed so buses will use Bute Terrace (outside Raddison Blu). Callaghan Square and Penarth Road then usual route to Sports Village instead of Wood Street, Tudor Street and Clare Road.  

This will mean stops at Dumfries Place, Greyfriars Road, Kingsway and Westgate Street, will not be served if there is a concert on a Sunday to Thursday.  For concerts on Fridays and Saturdays they will additionally not serve Wood Street, Tudor Street and Clare Road.  Please use alternative stops outside Queen Street Station or Bute Terrace (Raddison Blu).

Journeys to UHW Heath Hospital are not affected.

Services 21, 23 and 27:  Will start and end at Greyfriars Road, stop GL closest to the New Theatre. This will mean stops at Cardiff Bus Interchange, Westgate Street to Kingsway will not be served.

Journeys to the city centre on routes 11, 28, 44/45, 49/50, 52 and 57/58 will operate to the city centre via Station Terrace, lower Churchill Way, Bute Terrace and Customhouse Street  from 21:00. On Fridays and Saturdays they will start from their usual Fri/Sat evening point.  If the concert is Sunday to Thursday they will start from Royal Hotel, Wyndham Arcade or Cardiff Bus Interchange as appropriate.

Service 30: Inbound journeys from 21:00 will enter the city centre via Station Terrace and end at Customhouse Street JG. 

Diversions for concerts at Bute Park

For concerts at Bute Park then North Road, from its junction with Colum Road to Boulevard de Nantes, and Kingsway will be closed from 16:00 until last bus.  During this time the following changes to services will apply:

Route 9:  From UHW Heath Hospital will operate normal route to Newport Road then operate via Station Terrace, lower Churchill Way, Bute Terrace and Customhouse Street to the city centre not serving Dumfries Place, Greyfriars Road, Kingsway or Westgate Street. Please use stops at Queen Street Station, Customhouse Street to Wood Street – outside BBC Wales HQ. This applies from 16:00 – last bus.

Journeys to UHW Heath Hospital are not affected after 21:00 will divert via Penarth Road instead of Clare Road, Wood Street and St. Mary Street.

Routes 21, 23, 24 (and 25 to the city), 27, 30, 35, 86 and 136:  These routes will all start and end at Greyfriars Road – New Theatre end from 16:00 – last bus.

Buses to and from the city will travel via Colum Road and Park Place and not serve Cardiff Bus Interchange, Westgate Street, Kingsway or North Road.

Routes 11, 28, 29, 44/45, 49/50, 52 and 57/58 to the city centre will operate via Station Terrace, lower Churchill Way, Bute Terrace and Customhouse Street to the city centre not serving Dumfries Place, Greyfriars Road, Kingsway or Castle Street.

From 16:00-19:00 journeys start at their normal city centre terminal (e.g. Royal Hotel or Wyndham Arcade. From 19:00 they will start from Bute Terrace (44/45 & 49/50), Customhouse Street (52 & 57/58), Hayes Bridge Road (11) and Cardiff Bus Interchange (28). From 19:00 they will not be able to serve Dumfries Place, Greyfriars Road, Kingsway, Castle Street, Westgate Street or St. Mary Street (Wyndham Arcade).
