Important Update: It’s bye-bye to iff Cards

From 29th November 2025 your iff card will no longer be able to be used. From the 31st of October, you will no longer be able to purchase a 4 week ticket and from Friday the 21st you will no longer be able to purchase a Week ticket on your iff card. From the 31st of October you will no longer be able to top up your iff card £5 or more.

Why are we making this change?

When we introduced iff cards nearly 20 years ago, they were one of the most convenient ways to purchase your bus ticket.  Options such as contactless payments and mobile ticketing were not available back then.

Ticketing technology has moved forward significantly. The system supporting iff cards is now legacy technology that is costly to maintain, and less flexible than modern alternatives. By moving to newer options, we can provide you with a much more modern way to purchase your ticket for travel.

What happens next?

Your iff card will remain active until 29th November 2025. From this date you will now have the option to pay for your day or week travel through on the day contactless for day tickets, tap on-tap off for day or week tickets and then for day, week and month tickets through our app.

If you were using our iff cards to buy day, weekly or monthly tickets… here’s what you can do instead

Our Mobile App - for day, week and month tickets as well tracking your bus with live times. Using the interactive map you can live track your bus.

Your bank card - can be used to buy a single or day ticket.

Tap-on Tap-off - also allows you to simply tap in and out as you go. This will then cap at a day ticket or soon it will cap at a week ticket if you travel for more than one day. Please ensure you tap off. Click here to learn more about tap on-tap off.

If you used your iff card for Direct Debit tickets

You can continue your monthly travel by using a ticket on the app.

  • Your monthly ticket will be added to your app account once you contact us, providing your email address. Click here to provide your contact details.
  • No more physical card needed — all your tickets are digital and ready to use.
  • You can also manage your account and payment details easily within the app.

If you used your iff card for an annual ticket or made a purchase through your employer’s travel scheme

We’ll transfer your ticket to the Cardiff Bus app. Please contact our Customer Service team to arrange the transfer.
If your ticket was purchased through your employer, you may also receive further information directly from them soon.
